We’ve reached that time of year where the same games are releasing their yearly rip off. My question is, how are these companies still churning out the same games at the same prices and not be bored with what their making. Surely these guys must try out the game before it’s released and get to a point where they must even be bored of it all.
They rely too much on poorly managed online games and not having a good story to support the online side of gaming. For me the balance is when you can jump between the two and enjoy both sides of that game. Now my argument will lie both on the Call of Duty franchise and also FIFA, however there is one strong difference between these two, FIFA try to do something different.
Like for example, if the rumours are true then bringing back a much loved Fifa Street aspect to the game is something everyone is to once again enjoy. I’m sure this will not be a mirror image of that game, but a small five a side type of fixture, choosing your best five from the team of your choice (I can picture a lot of Man City, Barcelona based games here but I may be proved wrong). They have also brought in The Journey aspect to their games to once again give players that different side of career modes and it being about the lifestyle of a footballer.
Now, onto one of my least favourite games that somehow, I have a yearly conversation with my dad about not buying, and then end up buying – Call of Duty. This slots perfectly in with what I was talking about earlier, a game relying too heavily on the online side of gaming. Do not get me wrong their campaigns are on the side of enjoyable, but when you think of this game, the first that comes to mind is online gaming and having to listen to a load of trash talk.
If once again the rumours are true and they gone with a battle royal aspect, then this isn’t being bold or daring, it’s copying something that someone else has successfully done. Other than that, Call of Duty is just the same shoot em up chaotic mess it always has been. Best version of the game, was Modern Warfare 2 with the side of Spec Ops and how enjoyable the game mode was. You could join up locally with friends or online for this game mode but it was not the same online chaos that everything else that comes with call of duty.
So, what is really stopping companies from being bold and making a change? I think the reason companies keep churning out these games without change is they know we’re going to be peer pressured into buying it. All your friends will purchase it and then rave about how amazing it and how its changed. You hear change and instantly think, thank god for that, to find our it probably means a new skin or lease for sights type of change. Gamers also have fond memories of earlier games so hope you and your crew are all back together smashing out these games.
I’ll be completely honest and I know I keep raving about it, but this is why I’m so excited about the new Spider-Man, lately I’ve been unsure about what to play and like everyone else, get stuck in the rut of FIFA or something that I’m used to. With this, I’m going into the unknown, I know it’s going to have a massive open world to it but other than that we don’t know about anything but story mode. As long as it’s a good length story I can get stuck into, then I’ll be happy.
