Tekken 7 fanatics paused with baited breath on Sunday (21/02/2021) waiting for the Japan Fighting Game Roundtable event to begin at 9pm PST.
The previous time this event took place we were graced with a teaser trailer of the newly released, Kunimitsu into the Tekken 7 roster. There were mixed emotions on her release, however a pretty solid update. Who doesn’t like legacy characters with a whole new lease on life?
Tekken 7 fans had it on pretty good authority that Katasuhiro Harada, lead developer on the Tekken project at Bandai Namco, was going drop a bombshell of Tekken goodness at the Roundtable event.
This WAS the case however it was more of a party popper than a bombshell. Harada previewed an 11 second trailer of a completely new and unkown female character, hailing from Poland. Even the stage the character is shown on is the currently existing G.corp Helipad stage.
Content creators, such as Mainmanswe had high hopes for big names such as Jinpachi, Jun and perhaps even Kiryu from the Japanse role playing game, Yakuza. The reveal was largely met with disappointment due to the unoriginal nature of the short and the lack of a discernible face.
There has been a history of nee DLC characters being met with uproar since game breaking Leroy Smith was introduced in season 3. This releaae began to sow the seeds of a potential pay to win culture in Tekken 7 to the dismay of Tekken veterans alike.
There is still time! With this only being a short reveal trailer, trailer of a trailer if ypu will, we may be blessed with something a little more fleshed out and exciting in the coming weeks. If you want to catch up on the rest of the Japan Fighting Game Roundtable event stream, the link is below.
