Today I do not bring you a new game but a new piece of Hardware. The lovely team over at RIG sent us some headsets to try out and experience. We are going to be looking at the RIG 400pro HC used on the PS4.
The RIG 400pro HC Headset is a surround sound ready headset perfect for console gaming. With a super lightweight frame and unrivalled sound and hard to come close to matching.
The RIG 400pro HC upon first impressions may look like many other headsets on the market, but the 400 Pro HC features a ultra lightweight frame like no other.
It is not only comfortable but with the lightweight frame you hardly feel anything on your head. Therefore can go with a headset on for much longer, I could barely notice it compared to others I have owned. One thing in particular I noticed is how much cooler this makes them on the head, this is helped by dual fabric ear cushions. Along with adjustable sectioned ear cushions instead of the traditional extending band, you can easily change from one to another without the hassle of the band possibly extending while enjoying your game.
Another thing to note which doesn’t apply to me but my girlfriend wears glasses, and she said she has never worn anything that truly is comfortable while wearing glasses. But when trying my RIG headset she said that it was incredibly comfortable and like nothing she had worn before.
Alongside the design we are going to look at some of the stand alone features that help make this headset leaps and bounds ahead of the competition.
The first of which is the simple master volume, they have placed your turn dial for the master volume on the jack instead of on the ear section, resulting the player been closer to the controller so your hands are never too far away.
This idea is currently patent pending and I could see it easily catching on due to efficiency for console players alone.
Another little feature would be the controller rings the headset comes with an Xbox and PS4 one. The little rubber rings go on the end of the jack and each one curves with the controller giving the jack extra grip into the controller and sturdiness. Along side top quality sound you are also given high quality no background noise microphone bringing you closer to your team than ever, with a detachable and fully flexible mic you can have it anyway you like, with or without your team.
Also I don’t use Xbox or Windows but with the headset comes a year free of Dolby Atmos – Which frankly, is an incredible feature in itself.
Now onto the main event – how it sounds. Games can really bring out how good a headset is within seconds, and with the RIG 400PRO HC, boy does it deliver. The games I tested it on were Titanfall 2 and Rainbow 6 Siege. To begin with I started on Titanfall which I had started the campaign and was roughly half way through. So, I knew it would be a good time to start playing through a headset and with seconds just sat at the menu screens I could feel the bass in my ears, the menu music I actually noticed for the first time. It drew me in more so as you can imagine I couldn’t wait to full experience these headphones.
Titanfall 2 & Rainbow 6 Siege
As I dived into my campaign everything was so crisp. Every mechanical noise, NPC speaking far away, sound going from one ear to the other as a titan goes past left to right I was mesmerised. A particular highlight for me was the bass found when walking in my TITAN. That loud booming noise coming from the headphones the bass nearly vibrating my ears as my titan walks each step. All I needed was a VR and I would of thought I was physically in it.
After playing around and realising the potential of the surround sound I knew what was next – to test Rainbow 6 Siege.
Anyone who has played it will understand the importance of hearing every little footstep and noise in siege and I wanted to put RIG to the test, can it help me be better at Rainbow 6 Siege.
I jumped straight in, not quite knowing what to expect, or how it will help. I was hopeful after realising RIG potential. Within seconds I was defending and I could hear the drone going past me to my left so I turned and got rid of that. Then when the attack came I could hear enemies on the other side of the wall before they even breached the clarity and precision of these headphones working on a PS4 was a whole new level to what I have owned and my previous headphones include some Sony ones and a Corsair headset but with RIG I experienced sound quality like no other.
The RIG 400pro HC is an unrivalled headset when it comes to designed for consoles and sound quality. What really stands out is the comfort and lightweight of the headset itself. Providing comfort and quality as a total package, for a price which is roughly half of most headsets of the same quality out there. You simply can’t pass the opportunity of trying RIG for yourself.
