The Russian sniper is to have a massive rework to balance him in an upcoming patch. When Ubisoft originally designed Glaz, they aimed for a long-ranged sniper. But they quickly discovered that players didn’t want that, opting for close quarters. To encourage players to play the way he was meant, they gave him thermal optics, which only backfired. He quickly became one of the strongest close-range operatives.
The biggest counter that Ubisoft could muster was to remove the thermal optics the more he moved. Players will now slowly lose the ability as they move around, however standing still it will remain at full strength.
Making Glaz less lethal in close ranges may bring him back to the original play-style, however players are skeptical. If the thermal regeneration happens to fast, the play-style will remain unchanged. However, with a new defender enroute, this may interrupt Glaz as a whole.
The new defender, Warden, is rumored to have hardware that lets him see through smoke and flash grenades, proving a strong counter to Glaz.
