Sony still plans to release the PlayStation 5 during the 2020 Christmas release date, despite the coronavirus pandemic.
In a recent earnings call, Sony announced that it would still release the console, and the PlayStation 5 will play a vital role in the company’s success.
“Regarding the launch of PlayStation 5, although factors such as employees working from home and restrictions on international travel have presented some challenges in regards to part of the testing process and the qualification of production lines, development is progressing with the launch of the console scheduled for the 2020 holiday season,” Sony said in its report. “At this point in time major problems have not arisen in the game software development pipeline for Sony’s own first-party studios or its partners’ studios.”
This news follows Microsoft, who have already confirmed that the Xbox Series X console will come out during the same 2020 Christmas season. But the software development could face a halt because of the coronavirus pandemic, according to reports from The Verge.
