Sony’s PlayStation 4 has now sold more units than Nintendo’s Wii, becoming the second best-selling home console of all time.
The Wii was an incredibly successful release for Nintendo, going on to shift 101.63 million units in its lifetime alongside 920.96 million software sales. Gaming consoles don’t regularly reach these mighty figures, but the PlayStation 4 has now sold 102.8 million units, as of 30th September 2019.
The news comes from Sony’s recent earnings report released, where the company revealed it has sold 2.8 million PlayStation 4 consoles between July and September this year. The new lifetime total also overtakes the original PlayStation (102.4 million units), and is now only overshadowed by the PlayStation 2’s total of 155.0 million.
