The recent rumours about Overwatch coming to Nintendo Switch have now been officially confirmed following the announcement during the latest Nintendo Direct stream.
What Blizzard skipped out on clarifying in the announcement was just how smoothly Overwatch runs on the Switch. While responding to these queries on Twitter soon after, IMEA communications manager Nazih Fares revealed that the port supports a resolution of 900p when docked and 720p when in handheld mode. The game runs at a constant rate of 30fps, and doesn’t appear to be close to touching the 60fps area.
Another important thing to know is that Blizzard wasn’t alone in developing this port. Iron Galaxy helped out in the process. Iron Galaxy previously helped with porting Diablo III to the Switch.
According to the official blurb, the Switch port of Overwatch will feature immersive gyro controls, “which let players tilt their console to line up the perfect shot as McCree, pilot D.Va through the air, or quickly turn to deflect incoming projectiles as Genji”.
Overwatch is scheduled to release for the Switch on October 15.
