Mutant League Football DEALS
If you enjoy the NFL, and playing the Madden franchise by EA, but sometimes you just want more vulgarity, and pure violence – then Mutant Football League delivers on this, and more. For all intents and purposes, this is a stripped back Madden NFL 18, with the control scheme almost identical to EA’s flagship American Football franchise. Each team has a unique playbook, which you can decide which set play you want to use, depending if you are on the offensive, or defensive, but of course its up to you to execute them on the field. If you don’t play them correctly, well be prepared for some brutality from the other team, and the comical commentary even pokes fun at you at every opportunity.
The game keeps its tongue firmly in its cheek throughout. Team names are parodies of their real-life counterparts, like the Killadelphia Evils, led by star quarterback Arson Tense. And matches are played out in quickly stadia such as Phlegm Bley Stadium, which is also littered with obstacles such as gist sand worms and explosives. The twist is tackles will quite literally send your players six feet under.
During the season mode, balancing your roster becomes key, as running out of quarterbacks will see you forfeit a match. There are ways to resurrect teammates – and you can turn off the whole death mechanic if you prefer (but where’s the fun in that!?) but it all adds to this chaotic nature of the game. The chaoticness of it all can be a bit too much at times – bribed referees and dirty tactics add to the insanity of the action. Not really knowing what to do most of the time, I did end up just button bashing and hoping for the best.
It is such a fun game to play though, with some great lines of dialogue from both the commentators and the star players. Whilst the game is genuinely entertaining and bizarre, like if you pull of a trick shot, you will be armed with a shotgun to help you score a touchdown. This game is just a party game though and though. Online play is sparse, but local play can be up to four players, so if you have mates round, they should more that suffice.
