Mixer has just announced in a blog post that they are officially closing down the service.
In the post, the team cites the reason for closing the service is the time needed to grow their live streaming community, and how it was out of scale with their plans with Microsoft and Xbox to deliver a new experience for gamers in the future.
It isn’t all doom and gloom for Mixer streamers and partners, however, as the platform has partnered with Facebook Gaming to offer a transition for those displaced by the announcement, there is no obligation for partners to make this move over to Facebook and are free to go wherever they like.
This, of course, opens the door for Twitch to make some serious waves in reacquiring the talent they lost when Mixer started to make multi-million dollar deals with their partners to cross the fence and stream exclusively for Mixer, big names such as Ninja are now free to return to Twitch or stick with Mixer’s plan to shift focus to Facebook Gaming.
