The Forza Horizon series has been a road trip adventure that us racing fans have been looking forward to with increasing interest. The first Forza Horizon started back in 2012 and served as a nice, arcade like adventure away from the serious Forza Motorsport series. What made Horizon so good was that as the main series followed a realism path, Horizon embraced the fun and crazy side and really brought the road trip and festival feeling to life.
Now, you could be thinking either; “I’ve never heard of this Forza Horizon series before, where should I start?”, or “I’ve played these games, they’re great but what is the best?”, both of these questions are going to be answered here on XNVR. Buckle in, put your sunglasses on as we take a drive down the coast towards memory lane.
We’re coming to the meaty part of the rundown, we’ve found our way to silver. Silver medal goes to the original Forza Horizon, released back in 2012 as still extremely fun and can easily be played over and over as it’s incredibly stood the test of time.
The original Forza Horizon sees you joining the festival as a no one and leaving as the king or queen of everyone. Each race shows you slowly climbing the ranks in a bid to become the number 1 racer. Looking back, it’s a simple story but it really opened the door to the festival feeling because the game allowed you just hit the open road, blast some tunes and really just lose yourself.
FH didn’t have much else in the way of other modes, it was very much following the main story mode, but to be honest, that’s all it really needed. It was a really fun and exciting new adventure that at the time, was a complete breath of fresh air. At the time though, not now, where open world games are growing out of the fucking mildew.
