Formula Retro Racing has been launched and is based on an old style of racing where you basically put your foot down and rarely brake.
This quick completion but enjoyable game is just that. It is very easy to pick up and play. With 8 levels to play, with 3 of them locked until you reach a certain amount of points, but all tracks vary and offer a good variety. Each consequent level has 3 different difficulty settings. This is based within Arcade Mode by the way.
Each difficulty level adds a certain bit of challenge and offers a difference in the amount of points you can receive when you complete races. This is as much incentive you get to play as gaining more points unlocks additional levels but also achievements. Great for people who want a quick playing game which doesn’t require much effort.
The gameplay is very smooth and didn’t run into any issues during my time playing. The AI I found could be unpredictable and will sometimes ram you off to the side to make you crash which ultimately affects how much time you got left to reach the checkpoint. Apart from that, it is a very simple game and very basic to say the least. In some respects, the simplicity of Formula Retro Racing is something that could be endured by a few people, but I think it only targets a certain amount of people in the gaming community.
Yes, it is very easy to get on with but it can get boring and tedious as the only real element of some achievement is to grind out for the Professional License which will take you roughly around 4 hours to gain.
With only 3 different game modes and only 8 tracks, all race cars are the same just different colours, it lacks that incentive to carry on playing once you got 1st place in all levels and difficulties. The soundtrack that goes along in the game took me back to the days of playing in an arcade driving game and I suppose that’s what kept me hooked to grind those levels out. Especially with the timer going during races.
Formula Retro Racing
Don’t get me wrong I did enjoy playing it for the duration of me reviewing it but to be honest, I’d much rather play something with a bit more content.
