So EA Play has just been and gone like that first awkward date and here is what we’ve learned.
Apex Legends updates and switching to Nintendo crossplay
So first up on was from Apex Legends. And they had some new stuff coming up for season 5. With the limited-time event called Lost Treasures. with new cosmetics and new storylines and a new area which kicks off next Tuesday. Also will introduce a new item called the remote spawn beacon which is what you expect it to be. But it’s a one-time use item per game and the spawn beacons are gone.
Apex Legends is also coming to Steam and the Nintendo Switch and will be crossplay as well. (why not check this review out from yours truly on Apex Legends to bide the time?) and also 7 EA games will be coming to the Switch this year. With Burnout Paradise and Apex announced so far.
The Sims is coming to Steam and Command and Conquer remastered is out now
Pretty much what it says on the tin and also all of the fucktons of DLC. More stuff to come throughout the summer. That’s it.
It Takes Two to fuck the Oscars and EA Originals
Now EA Originals is EA Indie dev division. And their standout act for all the right reasons and some rants at the game awards. Hazelight and their potty-mouthed game director Josef Fares and with a new game called “It Takes Two” which is a Co-op platformer that follows a kid whose parents are having a divorce.
To get her head around this event she creates imaginary versions of her parents and they work together to progress through the game. There’s an attempt to create gameplay mechanics about the emotions of the playable characters. Looks alright, looking forward to the gameplay nearer 2021 when it will be released.
Also, we had Zoink Games and their new creation Lost in Random which looks very inspired by Tim burton-esque films or Alice in Wonderland feel to it. where you play as a girl in a world that ruled by minimizing risk and leaving little to chance. So she teams up with a Dice called “Dicey” to try and break the curse of the world. it’s an action-adventure game and it looks really good. I can’t wait to see more about it.
And lastly, we have Final Strike Games and their take on the Hero Shooter. Rocket Arena. Every one of the heroes who under no circumstances remind me of the heroes from Overwatch have rocket launchers. It’s a 3v3 3rd person shooter. Out fairly soon next month on July 14th with crossplay. Can’t say no to rocket launchers eh?
Before we move on, one question. Is Crossplay now a thing? If yes, why has it taken this long to get here for fuck sake?
Star Wars: Squadrons. Highway to the Danger Destroyers
And for the main event, we finally got some raw gameplay of Star Wars: Squadrons. if you’ve read my coverage of the reveal trailer from earlier in the week. It will have a single-player campaign from both perspectives of the Rebels and the Empire after the events of Return of the Jedi. Going through the types of ship and their strengths and weaknesses in combat. The multiplayer modes and the ship and pilot customization. And managing the ship from the seat of the cockpit. It had my interest after seeing the reveal trailer. But after seeing that it firmly has my attention in a Vader force-choke.
FIFA and Madden appeared and left
Then we had sports stuff from Madden and FIFA.
More reveal trailers than gameplay. More details to come in the summer. But one thing is certain, Darren Box will buy FIFA once more and then bitch about it and vow not to buy another one till next time when he paying for the next installment next year.
(and Darren, if you’re reading this, you cannot deny that.)
Tech demos for next-gen
If you didn’t know, there is a new generation of consoles coming and EA showed off all the tech demos from the likes of DICE and Bioware.
Again, coming from someone who isn’t sold on the “new-gen” dream. It looks impressive and interesting to see where they go with it from here. But, Bioware is working on a new Dragon Age. DICE with Battlefield and Criterion with Need for Speed.
Lastly, Skate is back folks.
Last and by no means least, Yes, there going to be a new Skate game on its way. It’s early in development according to Cuz Parry and Deran Chung. so folks are happy about that one definitely.
