Crash Team Racing Nitro-fuelled DEALS
This week, I had the joy of the nostalgia Nitro Fuelled remake of the classic Crash Team Racing drifting its way onto my desk. I will be going through the joys of the remake and what I have enjoyed so much.
To start things off, this game is everything I remembered and actually more. The graphics are that of the recent remake we were blessed with, so we’re already onto a win as they are beautiful to the tiniest of details. The environments each have a different feel that affect your driving, so it’s best to make take a few practice races on your own to get use to things, as well as reminding yourself of the controls for the game.
Whilst we are on the controls, the majority of them are fairly straight forward and easy to get to grips with, my only real disagreement is with the drifting aspect side of the game. I’ve tried out drifting on the recent Team Sonic Racing and Super Mario Kart 8, my personal preference is super Mario Kart 8, it’s so easy to work with and only really takes one button, however with this crash racing game, you have to drift and then remember to use a third button to time the drift to that perfect sweet moment.
Moving onto the gameplay itself, now much like the original Crash Bandicoot trilogy I must admit, I did somewhat find this game a bit more challenging and difficult than I ever remember it being. I’m not sure if thats down to watching my older brother destroy the game when I was younger and then he would switch it to an easy game mode for me or it has just been developed that the AI is being more of a challenge. I for one relish this challenge and have enjoyed it as I’ve had actually had to use racing techniques as opposed to shooting a weapon any someone and hoping for the best.
Within the game, there are so many different games mode to pick from and one massive thing I loved about this game is 4 player split screen. I’ve mentioned it before but there are only a small group of games that offer this and with a game like this, and it just heightens the nostalgia.
I find having a fiancé who loves playing racing games that games like this are just perfect as you can easily set up a grand prix or a nice 4 race championship to get yourself used to the game and something that you can just sit there and enjoy. Its fuelled fun for all of the family so make sure you’ve got 4 controllers at the ready for all timers.
The adventure mode is an easy way to unlock new karts, skins and characters, as well as putting your driving skills to the test as a win in this game, feels well earnt and also thoroughly enjoyable. Takedowns in the races are somewhat quirky as some of them can be used in both a defensive and offensive manor, meaning you can keep a shield on yourself for a good few minutes, if you then find someone has overtaken you or you just feel like being a bit of a dick then shoot it at someone you’ve just lapped just for pure evil.
Now, I come onto loot boxes and additional content as we all know there are unlockable characters and skins within the game, good news you do not have to waste your well earned cash on these, you just have to put your time and effort into the adventure mode and winning those championships you get yourself stuck into.
What’s really nice is that this game has been made available on PS4, Xbox One and Switch at the same time, no-one has had to wait around for it to be released on one console and then wait months on end for another console to be gifted with it. You’d hope that with the continuous discussion of cross play that given everyone has access to this game.
Crash Team Racing Nitro-fuelled
Overall, I would say that this game should be going straight into your basket and bought immediately. It's worth the money that companies are charging for it and it’s filled with family fun for everyone to enjoy and it’s so easy to pick up and just get yourself stuck into. There’s so many characters that everyone won’t know who to pick and who to keep as their favourite karter.
- 4 Player offline gameplay which is rare to find
- Easy to pick up and play with a beautifully remastered
- Family friendly and enjoyable for everyone to enjoy
- Drift controls are a fiddly
- AI has a harsh learning curve
- Additional Characters take a lot of in game coins to unlock
