Respawn Entertainment is reportedly clamping down hard Apex Legends cheaters through permanent hardware bans against PC players.
The permanent bans against cheaters on the PC version first surfaced on a thread on the official Apex Legends sub-Reddit. The thread showed screenshots of posts from cheating forums showing complaints from players that they have been unable to rejoin the game after having their account banned.
The screenshot shown in the sub-Reddit revealed a cheater who has tried nearly everything to get back into the game, including; changing the MAC address, reformatting, and partitioning the hard drives of the PC, all didn’t change the outcome.
There still appears to be a limited number of ways for players who received permanent hardware bans to get back into the game, including buying a whole new PC. Respawn haven’t stated how to bans appear to work, as changing the MAC address or details of the machine change none of the outcome.
With the permanent hardware bans, Respawn have shown how seriously they’re taking cheaters in their hugely popular game. The studio has also shown how cheaters should be dealt with, while Epic Games lags behind as they’ve notoriously struggled in the fight against cheating in Fortnite.
Fighting against cheating has been a hot topic for Respawn with Apex Legends. As in less than two weeks after the game was launched, the studio said that it had already banned more than 16,000 cheaters, and earlier in March, Respawn said that the number of banned cheaters was up to 355,000 on the PC version.
